Holiday Happenings - Part 3

After our grueling car ride to and from Wichita for Thanksgiving, we decided to alter our plans for our Christmas in Denver trip.  Typically we make the drive in two days stopping to visit our favorite farm family in Garden City.  We weighed our options and voted for one day of crying instead of two.  The one day route would take us through Amarillo, northern New Mexico and into Colorado from the south.  A few days before our trip we found out a snow storm was headed to Denver on our arrival day.  Luckily, Keenan's work is very flexible and we usually factor weather into our travel plans.  So, we loaded up a day and a half early hitting the road at 3 a.m.  Getting on the first highway, 15 minutes from our house, this is the sign we saw (taken later in the day when it was light and I was more awake).

As luck would have it, a blizzard came through our exact path 2 days before we were to leave and the roads were still closed.  We drove for a little bit, debating if it was worth a try, decided it wasn't and got back home around 5 a.m.  The kids and I went back to sleep and Keenan went into work having already had his coffee for the day.  After having time to look at maps and the weather forecast, we revised our plans to stay with Keenan's family in Wichita for a couple of days.  We were already loaded up, it would put us 6 hours closer to Denver and we'd get to see that side of the family for Christmas after all - bonus!

It snowed/sleeted in Wichita the next day much to the kids' delight!  I think Ari mopped up most of it with his mittens...

This was just a preview of what we were to find in Denver, though!
