Our sweet baby boy, Asher, turned four on March 4th - a golden birthday! He started out the day slightly grouchy and insisted he wouldn't turn four until his party that Saturday. I was happy to keep him three for a few more days! I made sure we were in the car between 8:30 and 9 to see if they would announce his special day on Kid's Place Live (a Sirius/XM radio station). Sure enough, just a few minutes down the road the DJ said his name! He thought that was pretty cool! We continued on to Dunkin Donuts for a birthday treat - a donut and chocolate milk. The rest of the day was fairly normal. We attended our Bible Study classes and spent a cozy afternoon indoors thanks to a cold rain that would turn into ice and snow that night. Asher picked spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and we all sang to him over some chocolate turtle cookies for dessert.

The week of his birthday, Asher was the Star Student at school. This meant he got to bring in a poster about him, a show and tell item and special snacks to share with his class. Luckily I sent all this with him on Tuesday as Thursday ended up being a snow day!
Friday night my parents flew in for a visit and joined us for Asher's party Saturday morning. This year we had his party at Home Depot on their Kid's Workshop day. If you have not participated in one of these events and you have small children - you need to give it a try! The first Saturday of each month kids can build a small, fairly simple wooden project and paint it. Our Home Depot even gives the kids a ticket to redeem for a hot dog out front. After hearing a friend talking about a party there and doing some research, sure enough you can have a party there! For FREE!! We had the choice of a workshop day or being in the break room on any other day we chose. We opted for the workshop day to take advantage of the hot dogs as well. By calling ahead, they reserved some benches for us (which I felt horrible about because it was super crowded and all the "regulars" were giving us stink-eye) and even put up some balloons around our area. The kids built and painted for about 45 min then we went out front to a picnic table for hot dogs, chips (which we brought), drinks (which we bought from the hot dog vendor to help him out) and cupcakes (again, brought those). So easy and so inexpensive - I only bought tablecloths, plates, napkins and reusable cups as favors along with some Spiderman sugar cookies I made - and everyone had a great time! Oh, and for the cupcakes I used this recipe which Keira and Ari have already requested as their birthday cupcakes. So yummy! Caramallow Cupcakes.
After the party we came home and watched Asher open presents and play with them. I lost all motivation by the afternoon so we ended up at our favorite pizza place, The Mellow Mushroom, for dinner. Ari insisted on a pic with the mushroom man on our way out.

We will continue celebrating at the end of the month when Keenan's parents and two of the cousins come for a visit. Asher is very excited to spread the fun out over the whole month!
