I had thought I'd done another post in March after Asher's birthday, but no post and no other March pictures on the camera or cell phone. Weird. I'm sure we had some fun in there somewhere!
April - My parents and sister came out for the first weekend to visit. As a bonus, my dad was able to get 4 tickets to the NCAA Final Four games! Unfortunately, we found out later that also included the championship game which we did not attend. I think watching it on tv was ok, though, considering our nose-bleed seats in an uber-sized football stadium set up for basketball. Of all the years we could have been there in person, this was a great one!
The second weekend we went to our first Family Camp at a local Boy Scout facility. The theme was Wild West so there were some hay bale steer to rope and leather crafts. There were also plenty of traditional Boy Scout activities like BB gun shooting, archery, council meeting complete with skits (and a beautiful overlook), a snake show and chapel on Sunday morning. Our first year of scouting has proved to be a great fit for our family. Looking forward to Day Camp this summer and all that next year brings!
We enjoyed our Easter weekend close to home. Good Friday morning our new church sponsored an egg hunt for pre-schoolers and home schoolers at a local park. The weather was gorgeous and it was so nice not fighting the mobs on Saturday at other egg hunts. Sunday morning some good friends joined us at church then more friends met us back at our house for brunch and another wonderful day letting the kids run around outside.
For a couple of months we had been planning to attend the Texas Junior Anglers even at a nearby nature center the last Saturday in April. We went expecting just a fun morning outside as a family. Little did we know we would sweep the competition! We (Keenan with the kids help. Ari did catch one completely in his own, though) caught a total of 6 fish! There were only a few other fish caught during the 3 hours among the 40 or so people there. We had the sweet spot for sure! Keira caught the first fish if the day and won a tackle box. At the end of the event, Keira won 1st and Asher won 2nd for longest fish in their age group. Ari won 2nd in his age group getting beaten out in the last 30 seconds of the time! All morning he had the longest overall fish until then. They each won a prize in addition to their trophies. We now have a new 3 man tent, a sleeping bag & fishing reel! What a day!!!
May has been much slower than April. We wrapped up Keira's first t-ball season and she had a great time. She improved her hitting skills and really got the hang of fielding. She played the pitcher position during her last game and was on top of it! She has declared baseball to be her most favorite thing ever and can't wait until next spring!
Keenan and the kids treated me to a lovely brunch for Mother's Day (even though we went the following weekend). Ari and Asher requested to have their hair "spiked" and everyone looked their best. The kids did pretty well at the fancy setting, but couldn't quite make it to hang out and listen to the live jazz once they were done eating.
Keira's preschool put on a wonderful graduation for her kindergarten class. Each student had a line to recite and they performed three songs. The kids wore grown-up size white oxford shirts backwards as their gowns. Genius! There was a reception after with cake and punch and each kid received the sweetest scrapbook documenting their year. What a big girl!
Now we're enjoying a quiet Memorial Day weekend at home. We ventured out to the lake yesterday to test out Keenan's new (to him) sail board (haven't downloaded those pics yet...) It was a lovely overcast day, not too hot. The kids played in the surf and sand and we all wore ourselves out! Now the rain has set in so it looks like we'll be catching up on things around the house. Sounds good to me!
