Puppy Love

One of Ari’s favorite friends brought him a gift the other day.  It was a giant stuffed dog his wife found when cleaning out her old room.  Ari and the dog have been inseparable ever since – especially for naps and bed times.  Even though Ari’s been very good about putting himself in his bed at nap time, the other day I found him with his dog asleep on the floor after playing for about 30 minutes.  Oh and he’s named the dog “Ubuntu.”  It’s a long story, but if you happened to catch “The Goode Family” on tv the other night or if you’re a Linux fan, you’ll understand why it’s so funny.

Today we made our first trip to the sprinkler park this season.  Ari ran and ran between the sprinkler area and the playground nearby for about an hour in the 85 degree weather.  I thought surely he’d take a good nap, but after an hour in his room he was still wide awake and begging to come out.  I agreed with the stipulation that if he acted grouchy in anyway, it was straight back to bed.  Surprisingly, he did quite well.  Keenan came home from work around 4:30 and Ari snuggled up with him on the couch.  It wasn’t long before I found the picture below.  He slept for about an hour, ate the best dinner he’s eaten in a long time and was in a good mood the rest of the night!  It almost makes me think we should move his nap time to 4.  Almost :)

Taco Tornado!

Keira loved taco night on Monday! She is completely on table food and is doing quite well with it. Her favorite food right now is beans. I had made a big pot of pinto beans and served them with our tacos. We also had fresh avocados and of course, shredded cheese. She ate most everything - then rubbed the remainder in her hair! What a mess, but still cute :)

A Weekend Visit

Papa and Yia Yia came for a visit this past weekend. We mainly spent time around the house enjoying the nice weather, but we did venture out to a park for a picnic and playground time. We also lit up the fire pit and made s'mores for dessert one night - yum! We all had a great weekend and Ari especially enjoyed lots of time with Yia Yia. They played back in his room a lot singing songs and playing with all his toys. Keira and Ari spent a few hours alone with Papa and Yia Yia while Keenan and I celebrated our anniversary a week early with a sushi dinner. We were told they were perfect little angels :) Here are some pictures of our time together:

Long Time No Blog

It has been a busy few weeks here at the Roach Motel!  Shortly after my last post, Keenan’s Great Aunt, Iris, passed away and we made a trip to Wichita for her funeral and to see all the family that had gathered in her honor.  I had just started getting to know her and she was a beautiful person.  You can read tributes to her from family members here, here and here.  She will be missed.

Despite the circumstances, we had a great visit.  The kids did as well as we could have hoped for in the car and enjoyed all their extended family.  Ari and CC played well together and kept each other entertained donning various hats and cleaning the sliding glass door with fly swatters using bubble solution and the cat’s water.  I’ve never seen a cleaner bottom half of a door! ;)

Since our return we’ve had much to do around here.  I attended Ari’s “Come to Music Class” at school where he and his classmates displayed what they had learned this year.  As expected, 5 2-year olds don’t perform on command, but it was still cute.  We continued the culture at home with Keenan drawing 3 Goldbug pictures for Ari to paint yellow and they are now proudly displayed in his room.

Keira turned 10 months old on Friday and is adding new challenges to my life daily!  She’s been scooting around on her bottom using her arms and legs to push and pull her along.  Amazingly, she can get around pretty well and can get into everything!  We didn’t really have to baby-proof much with Ari, but I can see that is going to be necessary with her.  She’s also decided she doesn’t like baby food anymore and only wants table food.  I don’t mind much (especially since I won’t be buying expensive baby food anymore!), but she’s still limited on what she can and will eat.  It’s always something!

Ok…I think I’m caught up for now.  Papa and Yia Yia will be making a visit this weekend so I’m sure I’ll have more to post next week.  Until then! :)

Correction

I must "steal" In The Mix's dialogue presentation for this post:

This morning while Keira was down for her nap I asked Ari "Would you like to go make some banana cookies with Mommy?"

Ari: "Yes and then we can watch my Cars movie and eat them on the couch!"

Me: "That sounds like fun!"

Ari: "No Mommy. It's not fun. It sounds like a good plan."
