Friday Fort Fun

On the last night of Keenan’s business trip I decided to distract/occupy the kids with a movie night – in a fort!

All set up with Ari’s current fav, Peter Pan, queued up.

Mmmm….popcorn (sprinkled with a little cinnamon and sugar thereby combining snacks and dessert)!

They just about watched the whole movie and really loved playing in the fort.  We may have to turn this into a new family tradition :)

Day at the Museum

Yia Yia and Papa came for a visit over Valentine’s/President’s Day weekend.  The Ft. Worth Science and History Museum recently moved into a new building and completely revamped their exhibits so we decided to check it out.  This museum is really geared towards kids and ours just loved it (I’m planning on getting us a membership and making visits this summer).  In fact, we all loved it!

Ari really enjoyed having extra attention from Yia Yia and Papa.  He invented a game with Yia Yia called “Racquet” involving a tennis racquet and a punching balloon.  I think they played it a couple of hours each day of their visit.  He also learned the word ricochet. :)

We all had a great visit and Keenan and I even got out for a sushi Valentine’s dinner.  Thanks for a great weekend! :)

SNOW DAY!

If you thought I was happy with our Christmas snow here in TX, you should see me now!  The official snowfall total at DFW airport (12 miles from our house) for a 24-hour period was 12.5 inches!  I measured somewhere around 8 inches at our house.  The snow started around 4am Thursday morning and went well into Thursday evening/early Friday morning.  It’s wet, heavy and beautiful.

So far we seem to have lucked out without major damage to trees or our house.  I was worried about losing power last night, but we stayed in the clear with that as well.  Keenan’s home from work today and we’re all just staying toasty by the fire.

(Bear with me…I have lots of pictures to share)

Didn’t we brush the snow off twice already?  Poor bushes.

Turtle Party

Last month Ari and I had our “Special Mommy-Ari Time” one Saturday afternoon.  In preparation I perused many websites trying to find an inexpensive indoor activity for us to share.  I looked up our local Science Center (about 1/4 mile from our house) and saw they were planning a party for their largest turtle in honor of his new tank.  I knew this was the event for us!  Ari already loves going to the science center to look at the snakes and turtles (it’s a pretty small place), but adding cake to the equation would be, well, like adding icing to the cake!

Awaiting Snappy’s entrance into his new tank (this is the only picture Ari would let me take of us together)

There he goes!  His new tank is about 3 times bigger than his old one.  He is one happy turtle!

They had turtle snacks, turtle juice, goldfish crackers and turtle cakes!

They insisted on everyone eating the white cake first before they would cut into the turtle-shaped cake.  By the time we were leaving there was still white cake left.  Ari still talks about going back there to have turtle cake because the white cake will be all gone.  That boy and his cake!

The party was during his usual quiet time, but he can go without a nap from time-to-time.  Around 5pm he was exhausted and crashed on the couch.  What a big day!
