Birthday Weekend #2 and More

Ari ended up having a week-long birthday celebration. Last Monday I brought donuts to school for Ari to share with his friends at snack time. They lit a candle and sang to him - he loved it!

On Thursday, my parents, sister and Aunt Renee came out to continue the celebrations. That night he opened more presents and we ate more cake. Needless to say, it was hard to get him to bed that night.

Friday morning we had his well-check. He jumped to the 25th percentile in height and is now 36" tall! He's still skinny as ever at not even 25lbs, though. The doctor didn't seem concerned and said kids plateau at 3-4 in growth. He had his first hearing and vision screenings and passed with flying colors. Overall, it was a good check-up and he's as healthy and smart as ever.

Saturday we loaded up and went to Ft. Worth's "Day in the District." Once a year, 7 museums and cultural centers in the art district open their doors for free along with extra musical and art performances throughout the day. I was on-edge with an energetic 3 year old who wanted to run through the Modern Art museum and almost touched one painting while the curator tailed us. He did a little better at the next museum and at lunch, but he sat perfectly still for the jazz orchestra. He's definitely a music man. We held out until 2 for a "puppet show" that ended up being more of a bizzare interpretive play with people dressed as wolves and cows (as one of the performers told us afterwards it was a "sureal presentation of cows reparing oil drilling rigs then dancing with the oil." I don't know what the wolves were about).

In other news, Keira's making strides towards walking. She's been free-standing for longer periods of time each day and just yesterday she pushed her walking toy around the living room. She's also making "real" crawling her main mode of transportation over scootching these days.

Studying's been going quite well for me these past few weeks with some minor exceptions. The test is just over 3 weeks away and I think it's starting to sink in. I feel a little bit of the nerves creeping up when I think about it too long.

Here are a few more pictures from the birthday events and a couple of the kids hugging. They've been pretty sweet to each other lately. I have so many pictures and videos to catch up on once this test is over! :)

Happy Birthday 3 Year Old!

Our sweet baby boy turned 3 today! We had quite the fun weekend. Papa and Yia Yia (Keenan's parents) came down Thursday and brought Ari's first present - a kitty cat named Obi! We adpoted him from Ari's cousin, Charis. Ari's already been quoted as saying "Obi, you're my best friend." and "I love you, Obi." Obi's ajusted quite nicely and the kids just adore him. I think it will be fun having a pet again.

On Friday Ari got to open his next gift - a shiny red trike! He's been riding it whenever he gets a chance and this is the first thing he mentions when someone asks what he got for his birthday. He and Keira also got to spend a few hours alone with Papa and Yia Yia while I ran off to get in some quality study time. Thanks again!

Saturday morning was rush, rush, rush as we prepared for his party. I had invited 2 little boys and 2 little girls. Only the girls showed up, but it ended up being great. The girls are in our home group so the 3 of them already see each other at least once a week (usually more) and get along great. The party was almost relaxing since they played so well together. To go with our "Cars" (the movie) theme they played with cars, did a couple of crafts and played "Red Light/Green Light" and "Mater's Towing Game." I made a race track cake in the shape of a 3 and it was a big hit. Ari received more great gifts although he wasn't too keen on sharing them with Keira.

Now we're preparing for my parents, sister and aunt to come visit this Thursday and continue the celebrations for a few days more. I'll try to post an update after all that next week. We'll have Ari's check-up on Friday so I'll have stats then as well (for anyone interested).

Here are some of the pic's from the weekend. Enjoy :)
