Already Ready Already?

For most of this pregnancy I’ve felt very behind on all the projects I had in mind to get ready for this little one.  In the last few weeks, things have fallen into place and I’ve been able to put the finishing touches on my list.  We still need to get the cradle back from some friends who borrowed it, a few more clothes to get us through the first couple of months and diapers, but otherwise I think we’re just about ready!  Here’s some of the fun I’ve been having decorating and craft-wise.  (Please excuse the picture quality.  Not much natural light in our house and I just wanted to get this done!)

Bedrooms

We moved Keira into Ari’s room back in August, but it’s taken me a while (and 2 trips to Ikea!) to get things the way I wanted them.  I’m quite pleased with it now, especially the fact that 90% of their toys are now housed in there as well and they have been doing great sharing a room!

Yes, those are photo labels on each of the toy bins.  Just a glimpse of my super-anal organizing side!

I had saved the nursery décor from when Ari was a baby, so that part was easy.  It looks a little different this time around since the walls are tan (instead of lime green!) and the shelves are different.  I also modified some of the wall décor.  (I’d do comparison pic’s for you, but those are on the other computer and I’m feeling lazy right now).

Crafts

After sewing a few baby gifts last year, my confidence has grown so I made quite a few accessories for us.

Nursing Cover – I found the pattern here and it was super-easy.  I love the fabric I picked and the way it came out.

Car Seat Cover – pattern here.  This is what I made for baby gifts.  Again, easy and cute.  (Keira had been playing “Mommy” with the teddy bear and car seat.)

Changing Pad Cover – I had intended to make a changing pad then I realized I had a perfectly good one from my last diaper bag.  So, I whipped this up with a double layer of fleece and made it removable for easy clean-up.

Diaper and Wipes Pouch – Another project I made up (as far as a pattern goes.  There a plenty out there if you do a search).  Just a little something to grab for quick changes without lugging the whole diaper bag along.

Diaper Bag – this was by far the hardest sewing project I’ve ever taken on.  In the end, the sewing part was easy, it just required a lot of thinking and planning.  Part of that was my own fault for trying to skip some of the steps and perks of the tutorial I found.  I just wasn’t ready to try sewing laminated cotton/PUL and figured as long as it was washable, it was fine.  Anyway, the tutorial is here.

Hat and Booties – Of course I had to crochet a hat and booties for this little guy, too.  I used this pattern for the hat and just made it longer..  I’ve seen a lot of professional photos using this style hat lately and think it’s too cute!  I downloaded the bootie pattern a while ago and now I can’t find the original website to link back to.  Sorry.

I found this outfit at Target today and thought it would go perfectly.  The green’s aren’t quite the same, but I think it will work none-the-less.

Now I’m more excited than ever to meet this little guy!

So there you have it.  What I’ve been up to the past couple of months on top of everything else. 

Wait…what’s that?  You couldn’t see my belly in the pic’s I included?  Ok…since you asked so nicely.  Here we are at 33.5 weeks!

And now a bit of what Ari's been up to these days (mostly for my records. Don't feel bad if you don't find these as humorous as we do!):

For starters, he's been enjoying a new PBS kids show called Wild Kratts. It's basically a kid's nature/animal show and gives lots of facts. Ari likes to repeat these facts to us regularly. "Hey Mom, did you know....?" We are all quite familiar with whales and worms right now :)

It's usually when he's giving us a fact (animal or otherwise) that Ari goes into what we call "Jeopardy talk." It goes a little something like this: "Hey Mom, these kind of cookies are really good. (Pause) Blueberry cookies." "Hey Mom, these kind of bugs are really bad. (Pause) Mosquitoes." He doesn't usually pause long enough for us to ask "What kind?" or try to answer ourselves. It's all one continuous thought for him.

Speaking of cookies, I'm sure I've mentioned Ari's affection towards confections. One morning he and Keira were arguing whether our cat was a boy (Ari's side and fact) or a girl (Keira's side). At lunch, I told our friend about their disagreement. She turned to them and trying to comfort Keira, explained that their dog is a girl. Going further to comfort both of them, she explained that some mutual friends of ours have both a girl and a boy dog. "You know, Oreo is a boy and Cupcake is a girl." You could just see Ari's wheel's spinning and the next words out of his mouth were "You know what kind of cookie is really good?...." :)

And lastly a story from dinner just last night. Keenan was rubbing his arm and in doing so moved his sleeve, showing his tattoo. Keira must have forgotten about it and asked "What dat?" Ari quickly chimed in and said "That's Daddy's tattoo. He got it 'cause he rode on a boat. When they were done, the Captain gave him a stamp!"

Keira's Prayer

I know my posts have been a little Keira-heavy lately. She is on a roll these days (and doesn't even know it)! I'll get an Ari post up here soon. He is becoming quite the little boy these days!

A few minutes into dinner tonight Keira informed me she'd like to pray again. I said ok and folded my hands to join her. She insisted I keep eating and that she'd pray alone. Here's what she said:

K: Dear Jesus, tank ou for dis ummy food and, and...(she pauses and turns to me) Mommy? Are we going to tean [clean] today?

Me: No, sweetie. We'll clean tomorrow.

K: Oh, otay. And tank ou we not tean tonight. Amen.

So glad she let me continue eating - I nearly choked after that!

A Conversation

The other night I was prepping dinner and rushing around before our friends came to join us. Keira wanders into the kitchen, naked from the waist-down except for one purple sock. Here is the conversation that followed:

Me: Uh, Keira? Why aren't you wearing any undies or pants?

Keira: My needed fesh socks.

Me: Ok, but where are your undies and pants?

K: My went pee-pee.

Me: You went pee-pee? Did you go in the potty or in your pants?

K (as non-chalant as can be): In my pants.

With that she turned around and wandered back to her room.

She definitely keeps things interesting around here! :)
